How the JCID tag-on repair works

The general process is as follows: 

1. A technician reads the unique encrypted data from the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s original Face ID module using a compatible JCID programmer, such as the V1SE or V1S PRO.
2. The data is written to a new JCID tag-on Face ID flex cable, which is compatible with the iPhone 15 series.
3. The technician installs the new flex cable, which does not require soldering onto the delicate optical components of the original Face ID module.
4. The programmer is used again to “activate” the new flex cable, which effectively tricks the iPhone into accepting the new component and restoring Face ID function. 

Required tools

• A JCID V1SE or V1S PRO programmer: This tool is used to read and write the Face ID encryption data.
• The JCID 13–16 series Face ID activation and read/write adaptor: This specific adaptor board is needed to connect the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s dot matrix components to the programmer.
• A JCID 15 Pro Max Face ID tag-on flex cable: This is the replacement part that will be installed in the phone. 

Risks and considerations

• Technical expertise is mandatory: This is a complex procedure. Attempting it without the proper knowledge can cause permanent damage to your device.
• Data transfer is critical: The repair is only possible if the data from the original Face ID module can be successfully read and written to the new flex cable.
• Third-party repair risk: The use of third-party parts and tools to perform complex repairs can be risky and may impact future official service or trade-in value.
