How the JCID tag-on Face ID repair works

1. Required equipment:
   • JCID Face ID tag-on FPC cable: This is a replacement flex cable specific to the iPhone 15 Pro model.
   • JCID programmer: You will need a JCID V1SE or V1S Pro programmer with the correct Face ID activation and read/write board.
2. Repair procedure:
   • Read original data: The JCID programmer is used to read and back up the original encrypted Face ID data from the iPhone 15 Pro’s dot projector.
   • Write to new cable: The original data is then written from the programmer onto the new JCID tag-on FPC cable.
   • Activate Face ID: The programmer is used to activate the original Face ID module, which is not removed during the process.
   • Install the tag-on cable: The new FPC cable is connected to the iPhone’s logic board, often with a “buckle-and-fold” method, and the original Face ID module is connected to the new tag-on cable. This completes the repair by linking the original, activated hardware to the logic board via the new FPC. 

Limitations and important notes

• Requires original data: The Face ID data is unique to each device. You must be able to read the original data from the phone’s dot projector to perform this repair. If the dot projector is physically damaged beyond repair and data cannot be read, this fix will not work.
• Specialized equipment: This is not a DIY repair for the average user. It requires a JCID programmer and the correct FPC cable, which are tools for professional technicians.
• Solder-free, not non-invasive: While soldering is not required, the repair is still a complex, invasive procedure that requires opening the iPhone.
• One-time programmable: Some versions of JCID cables may have a limited number of write attempts for the data. According to documentation, some cables can only be written to a maximum of five times.
