What the tag-on method does

• Fixes Face ID failure: The process repairs the “Face ID not available” issue and other related problems that occur when the dot projector or other components of the TrueDepth camera system are damaged.
• Avoids component removal: The “tag-on” flex cable attaches to the existing dot matrix hardware, bypassing the need to remove and reball the original chip, a procedure that could cause more damage.
• Supports current iOS: The JCID solution is designed to work with the latest iOS versions, preventing error messages or failed Face ID functionality after the repair. 

Required tools and procedure

• JCID Tag-on Face ID Flex Cable: A flexible printed circuit (FPC) cable specifically for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
• JCID Programmer: A programming tool like the JCID V1S Pro or V1SE, which is used to read and write data.
• Face ID Activation/Read & Write Board: An adapter board that works with the programmer to interact with the Face ID module. 

The process generally follows these steps: 

1. Read the data: The technician uses the JCID programmer and adapter board to read and back up the unique encrypted dot-matrix data from the phone’s original Face ID module.
2. Write the data: The backup data is then written to the new JCID tag-on flex cable.
3. Activate the module: The programmer is used to activate the original Face ID module with the new flex cable.
4. Install the flex: The technician installs the new tag-on flex cable into the phone and reassembles the device. 

Cautions and considerations

• Professional use only: This is a professional-grade repair process and should not be attempted by someone without the proper training and tools. Incorrect handling can cause irreversible damage to the Face ID system.
• Requires proprietary tools: You cannot perform this repair with standard tools. The JCID programmer and specific flex cables are necessary.
• “Non-genuine” message: A message will likely appear in the iOS settings indicating that a “non-genuine” part has been detected, as Apple’s software is designed to recognize and flag any non-original components.
