This solution consists of two main parts:

• A “tag-on” or “non-removal” flex cable: A flexible circuit board specifically designed for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro TrueDepth module.
• A programmer: A hardware tool, like the JCID V1S, V1SE, or V1S Pro, that writes data to the new flex cable. 

How the tag-on repair process works

1. Read data: A technician uses the JCID programmer to connect to and read the encrypted dot-matrix data and serial numbers from the iPhone’s original, broken TrueDepth module.
2. Write data: The original data is then written from the programmer onto the new JCID tag-on flex cable.
3. Activate: The programmer is also used to activate the original Face ID assembly, which prepares it for the new flex cable.
4. Install: The tag-on flex cable is connected to the original Face ID module and the rest of the phone. Because it is a “tag-on” design, it simply adds to the existing hardware without removing the original components.
5. Test and verify: The technician verifies that the repair was successful by testing Face ID setup within the phone’s settings. In some cases, a small metal plate inside the device’s shield may need to be cut for proper installation on the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro.
