For iPhone 13 and 14 series Face ID repair, JCID offers two primary solutions: the
JC Romeo-2 integrated chip and Tag-on Face ID flex cables. Both methods require a compatible JCID programmer, such as the JCID V1S Pro, to read and write the Face ID data.
JC Romeo-2 integrated chip
This is a more advanced solution for technicians who are skilled at micro-soldering.
- Direct installation: The integrated chip has built-in solder balls, allowing it to be installed directly onto the dot projector FPC cable without a separate converter.
- No manual modification: Unlike older methods, it does not require manually shorting the MOSFET.
- Minimal footprint: It eliminates the need for grinding and leaves no trace of repair.
- Requires programming: Technicians must read the original data from the customer’s phone using a JCID programmer and then write it to the new Romeo-2 chip.
Tag-on Face ID flex cable
This is a simpler, non-soldering method that is generally more user-friendly.
- Solder-free design: The flex cable “tags on” to the existing dot projector, bypassing the need for advanced micro-soldering.
- External connection: It works by connecting the original dot projector to a special socket on the Tag-on cable.
- Requires programming: As with the integrated chip, this method requires a JCID programmer (V1S Pro or V1SE) to read and write the Face ID data and to activate the replacement FPC.
- Compatibility: JCID produces different versions of these flex cables, designed for specific iPhone models within the 13 and 14 series.
Required equipment
Regardless of the method, professional technicians will need the following tools from JCID to complete the repair:
- JCID Programmer: The V1S Pro is the most current and comprehensive tool. The V1SE is also compatible.
- Dot matrix detection module: An accompanying module is required to interface with the phone’s Face ID system.
- Dot Matrix FPC: Either the integrated chip or the tag-on flex cable, depending on the chosen repair method.
