Description

JCID Dot Projector Flex for iphone 13

A JCID dot projector flex for the iPhone 13 is a replacement cable used by professional technicians to repair Face ID functionality. The original dot projector is paired with the phone’s logic board, so special tools are required to transfer the data to the new flex cable.

Required tools for repair

You cannot simply swap this flex cable, as the phone will not recognize the new component. The repair process requires the following JCID tools:
  • JCID V1SE or V1S Pro Programmer: A main programmer device to read and write Face ID data.
  • JCID Dot-matrix Detection Board: A module that attaches to the programmer to work with the dot projector.
  • JCID Replacement Flex Cable: The new dot projector flex for the iPhone 13 or 13 Pro/Pro Max, which connects to the programmer for data writing.

Repair method: Tag-on vs. IC chip

JCID offers a couple of solutions for this repair, which vary in difficulty and soldering requirements:

Tag-on flex cable

  • How it works: This is a solder-free option. The new “tag-on” flex connects to the existing original flex cable. You use the JCID programmer to read data from the original dot projector and write it to the new tag-on flex cable.
  • Best for: Technicians who prefer not to do microsoldering and want a faster repair process.

IC chip replacement

  • How it works: In this method, a new JCID replacement chip is soldered directly onto the original flex cable. The JCID programmer is then used to transfer the necessary Face ID data to the new chip.
  • Best for: Experienced technicians who are comfortable with microsoldering. This method can sometimes be more stable and durable.

The repair process

  1. Read the original data: The technician connects the original dot projector module to the JCID programmer and reads the encrypted Face ID data, saving it to the programmer.
  2. Attach the new flex:
    • For tag-on: The new tag-on flex cable is connected to the original.
    • For IC replacement: The original IC is removed and the new JCID IC is soldered to the original flex.
  3. Write the data: The saved Face ID data is written from the programmer onto the new JCID flex cable or chip.
  4. Install the component: The repaired dot projector flex is installed back into the iPhone.
  5. Test Face ID: The technician verifies that Face ID is fully functional by setting up a new face on the device.

Important considerations

  • Professional repair only: This is not a DIY repair. It requires specialized tools and expertise. Attempting this without the right equipment or skills can permanently disable Face ID.
  • True Tone compatibility: Note that True Tone function is sometimes tied to the screen and may require a separate repair if affected.
  • Solder vs. solder-free: Choose the tag-on (solder-free) or IC replacement (microsoldering) method based on your comfort level with small component soldering.
