A JCID dot projector flex is a replacement component used by repair technicians to fix Face ID on compatible iPads and iPhones
. It is not a user-friendly, do-it-yourself (DIY) part and requires specialized tools and technical expertise to install.Â
How it works
The dot projector is part of Apple’s TrueDepth camera system, which projects more than 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto a user’s face to create a facial map for Face ID authentication. Damage from a drop or water can break this sensor, causing Face ID to fail.Â
The JCID flex cable is a tool for repair shops to replace the damaged component. The repair process generally involves these steps:Â
- Read and write data: Using a JCID programmer (such as the V1S, V1SE, or V1S Pro) and a specialized dot projector board, the technician reads the encrypted data from the iPad’s original Face ID module.
- Transfer data: The original data is then written to the new JCID replacement flex cable.
- Replace and activate: The new flex cable is installed, and the original Face ID module is activated with the programmer.Â
