This flex cable does not “boost” battery performance in the sense of increasing its capacity, but rather “boosts” the repair process by addressing these software locks.
How it works
- Read data: The original battery management system (BMS) data is read and stored using a JCID programmer, such as the V1S or V1S Pro.
- Attach flex: The new JCID flex cable is connected to the original battery BMS board.
- Transfer data: The original BMS data is written to the new JCID flex cable via the programmer.
- Install: The new flex cable, with the correct battery data, is installed with the replacement battery cell.
Types of JCID flex cables
- Tag-on (External) flex: This type is easier to use and is “tagged on” to the new battery. It is visible and suitable for technicians who want a fast, straightforward repair.
- Built-in flex: This version requires more advanced microsoldering skills but allows for a cleaner, “traceless” installation.
Important considerations
- Requires a programmer: The flex cable must be used with a JCID V1S or V1S Pro programmer to read and write the necessary data.
- Keeps the original BMS: The core of this solution relies on retaining the original battery’s BMS to bypass Apple’s software restrictions. It is not possible to simply put in a new, non-genuine battery cell without this process.
- For repair professionals: Due to the risk of damaging the original BMS board, this process is generally recommended for professional repair technicians, not casual DIYers.
