Apple’s software prevents unofficial repairs from displaying this information, making the JCID flex a necessary tool for third-party repairs.
How the JCID flex works
- Requires specialized programming: Unlike a standard battery replacement, using the JCID flex requires a JCID programmer, such as the V1S or V1SE.
- Original battery data transfer: The original Battery Management System (BMS) board is removed from the old battery and soldered onto the JCID repair flex. The programmer is then used to transfer the battery health data, including the cycle count, to the new flex.
- Eliminates warning messages: This process allows the new battery to be recognized by the iPhone’s system, which corrects the “Important Battery Message” and “Service” warnings.
- Two types of flex cables:
- Tag-on (external): An easier method for technicians that involves connecting an external flex cable. It is more accessible for DIY enthusiasts but leaves a visible sign of repair.
- Built-in (internal): A more difficult, “traceless” repair method that requires professional skill to install the flex internally.
Importance for battery replacements
