Description

JCID Dot Projector Flex for iphone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max

The JCID dot projector flex for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is a replacement flex cable used by professional technicians to repair Face ID. Because the Face ID module is paired to the phone’s logic board, a specialized programmer is required to transfer data to the new flex cable.

Types of JCID dot projector flex cables

JCID offers two types of dot projector flex cables for the iPhone 13 series, which work for both the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max:
  • Dot matrix IC: This option involves replacing only the chip on the original flex cable. It requires more advanced micro-soldering skills but is also a more affordable repair.
  • Tag-on or non-removal flex: This is a replacement flex cable that is soldered onto the original dot projector board. It allows for repair without having to remove the original optical components.

How the repair process works

Repairing the dot projector with a JCID flex cable is a multi-step process for experienced technicians:
  1. Read the data: The original, faulty dot projector flex cable is connected to a JCID programmer (such as the V1SE or V1S Pro) to read and save the encrypted Face ID data.
  2. Unbind: On the JCID programmer, the technician performs an “unbind” operation to release the original module.
  3. Transfer the data: The technician connects the new JCID flex cable to the programmer and writes the saved data to it.
  4. Install the new flex:
    • For the “tag-on” method, the new flex is soldered onto the existing dot projector module.
    • For the IC method, the technician replaces the chip on the original cable with a new JCID chip.
  5. Assemble and test: The phone is reassembled, and the new Face ID function is tested. If successful, Face ID will work as normal.

Requirements for the repair

A JCID dot projector flex cable is not a stand-alone fix and requires other specialized tools:
  • JCID programmer: A JCID V1S, V1SE, or V1S Pro programmer is necessary to read, unbind, and write the Face ID data.
  • Dot matrix detection board: A separate module for the programmer is used to connect and test the dot projector.
  • Soldering tools: Micro-soldering equipment, such as a hot air gun and soldering iron, is required to install the new flex cable or chip.
